Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar after the meeting

Former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi has been picked as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 general election.

Earlier today Atiku Abubakar, was in a closed-door meeting with Peter Obi at his Asokoro home in Abuja.

Atiku Abubakar, after the meeting, picked the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, as his running mate ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Obi emerged the preferred choice of both the party and the candidate after series of consultations by stakeholders in the party and outside it.

It was gathered that Obi’s name and that of Atiku will be sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) next week.

Although several options have been suggested in the public domain, with the candidate being widely expected to choose from either the Igbo-dominated Southeast or a Yoruba choice in the Southwest part of the country.
