APC Thugs Scuttle Catholic Church Imo Guber Debate, Attack Priest

Admin March 11, 2015

Rochas-OkorochaA debate for governorship candidates organized by the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese was this morning disrupted by a band of hired thugs of the APC Government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

Also two serving Commissioners, Mr. Chidi Ibe and Uche Mbanaso physically assaulted and pushed down a Rev. Father and destroyed public Address System to further put an end to the planned debate.

The government bought uniforms of Catholic Women Organization   which were distributed unsuspectingly to some women to pass off as genuine members of the organisation. But it was a subterfuge as these women were used as a decoy to populate the venue of the debate. So sooner had the organisers set up the stage when some APC supporters among them attacked the contingent of Imo Widows Association.

The attack threw up pandemonium at the venue forcing men and women to scamper to safety. The fighting that ensued grew into heavy fisticuffs thus bringing the programme to an abrupt end.

Gun-bearing members of Okorocha security ensemble gave protection to these women and thugs as they disrupted the event.

The much awaited event had generated some dust within the state as members of the APC openly expressed their disdain for any debate not least is the one organised by the Catholic church. The governor had of late been involved in a number of altercation with different interest groups in the state.

The fate of Okorocha is aping the path of his predecessor, Ikedi Ohakim, who bickered with the authorities of the Catholic Church, a misadventure that cost him his re-election.
