Football fans across the nation on Sunday said Algeria played better than the Super Eagles hence deserve their victory in the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

Riyad Mahrez last minute free-kick ensured that Nigeria would now play Tunisia on Wednesday night for the third-place match.

“The Algerians were swifter, more determined and hungrier to win. They deserve their victory. The NFF should take a closer look at the performance of our coach. I think he is not good enough for us. He should be sacked. No sentiments,” says Lagos-based Jide Olaoluwa, who described himself as a fanatic of the Super Eagles brand.

Another fan questioned the character of the Eagles, adding that mother luck sustained them so far in the tournament. “But luck does not win all the time. We need a new team spirit”.

However in Gombe, one of the fans, Haruna John said: “ I am satisfied with the outcome of the match. You can’t expect to win every time and that’s why it’s called a game of luck.

“I am not in any ways disappointed neither will I blame anyone. The boys met a tough team looking at the quality of the Algerian players but the Eagles gave good account of themselves.”

Bashiru Garba described the team as “gallant even in defeat. They played to the last minute and showed the Algerians that we can’t be pushed over.”

Garba said that the Eagles had proven that with time they would come out better, adding that they had improved game after game.

Some fans feeling disappointed called for the disbandment of the entire team.
