Again, Fulani Herdsmen on Rampage, Kill Two in Anambra

Admin February 24, 2016

Anambra CPTwo people in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State were on Monday killed by persons said to be Fulani herdsmen just weeks after the Fulani herdsmen abducted and killed a prominent monarch in Delta State, Obi Akaeze Ofulue III of Ubulu Uku.

In recent weeks the Fulani herdsmen have spread far and wide in the Southern part of the country with their cattle maiming, killing and destroying farmlands.

The latest Anambra incident was brought to the floor of the State House of Assembly by the member representing the area, Mr Uche Okafor, through a motion in which he called on Governor Willie Obiano to restrict the activities of herdsmen in the state.

Hon. Okafor drew the attention of the Assembly to series of mayhem that the herdsmen had wrought in his community, describing it as wicked and unacceptable. He urged the governor to intervene to avert escalation and possible reprisal from the natives.

He said: “My people have lost hope in farming as a result of the activities of the herdsmen. Two persons have been killed in my community while protecting their farm lands from these herdsmen.

“We need to do something about this situation before it gets out of hand. One would wonder what the situation would have been if the citizens had decided to take the law into their hands during the incident.

“We need to do something now to stop this senseless killing and apprehension. My people have been pressed to the walls.”

A visibly angry Hon. Okafor said his people had been pushed to the wall and urged the security authorities to ensure the safety of lives and property of his people which is their primary duty.

Another member representing Ogbaru constituency, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, also narrated to the house how the Fulani herdsmen have been terrorizing members of his constituency in the past few days, explaining how they have invaded his area and destroyed things with impunity.

A strong message was sent to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Hosea Karma, to nip the evil activities of the herdsmen in the bud.
