Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, says the service needs the support of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun, and other traditional institutions to succeed.

Adeniyi solicited for the support on Monday during a visit to the Olubadan in his palace in Ibadan.

He noted that all the agency’s activities revolve round the communities “and the importance of the traditional rulers in that regard is a crucial factor.

“All what we are doing in the agency are community-based and there’s no way we can take such critical stakeholder for granted.”

The NCS acting Comptroller-General said he was also at the palace to seek royal blessings in recognition of traditional rulers as the custodians of culture and traditions.

He said the Olubadan was the first traditional ruler to be visited during his working visit and this was to show his recognition and the importance attached to the Olubadan stool.

“We acknowledge Oba Balogun’s support, understanding and cooperation over the years and I covet same to take the agency farther in they’ve height of performance, professionalism and efficiency”.

In his remarks, Oba Balogun while appreciating Adeniyi for the visit described NCS as the centre of the nation’s economy.

”It is also an agency of government to be proud of in terms of acknowledged efficiency globally.

“The NCS is also a source of pride to us in the country as it ranks among the best globally in terms of efficiency and professionalism.”

The Ibadan traditional ruler added that the contributions of the agency to the economic well-being of the country could not be over-emphasised.

He charged Adeniyi not only to maintain the standard but to improve on it.

“You have to remain focussed and committed to the mandate of the agency in sustaining nation’s economy the way it has been doing.”

The Olubadan further charged Adeniyi to improve on the existing template of revenue generation towards making a remarkable impact during his tenure.

Oba Balogun prayed for God’s guidance for the Customs top official to enable him succeed in his new position.(NAN)
