The Oyo State Fire Services Agency, has confirmed that a 28 year-old electrician has been electrocuted in Odo Babaode, Eruwa Community in Oyo State, while trying to repair a fault 33KV High Tension Cable.

The agency’s General Manager, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday.

Akinyinka said that personnel of the agency recovered the corpse of the electrician from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s (IBEDC) high tension cable.

He said that the agency received a distressed call about the incident about 3:29 p.m on Wednesday through a telephone call from one Adelanre Adeyinka.

The General Manager said that the agency’s personnel led by Peluola Babatunde immediately moved to the scene and on arrival met the victim already electrocuted.

“On arrival at the place, we met the victim already electrocuted and all necessary precautionary measures were observed so as to safeguard the citizens within the vicinity.

“The man was recovered and handed over to a team of police from Eruwa Police station,” he said.

The general manager said the incident occurred when the victim was trying to rectify an electrical fault on the active power lines without shutting down the feeder.

He advised the public to value their life than material gains, noting that only trained Engineer or Technician should be responsible for handling active electrical equipment.
