Police nabs 4 suspects, recover firearms in Ogun

The Police Command in Ogun says it has arrested four suspects and recovered four firearms and 17 cartridges in multiple operations in various parts of the state.

The Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement to newsmen on Sunday in Abeokuta.

He said that the Ogun Police Command had recorded significant operational successes through intelligence -led operations in its sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

He added that illegal firearms were recovered and multiple arrests made in the operations carried out at Mower, Sagamu and Odesa areas of the state.

Babaseyi explained that on April 14, at about 4.30 a.m., operatives of Mower Division acted on credible intelligence received from a concerned member of the public, regarding a suspicious individual loitering around Mower Bus-Stop.

He said that the suspect aged 36, was promptly arrested, adding that a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a single-barrel locally made pistol, one expended cartridge, and charms concealed in his bag.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity, ” he said.

In similar development on April 17, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), had intercepted a Bajaj motorcycle ridden by one Asaye Ajibola, while on stop-and -search duty Lafarge along Sagamu/Ogijo road,

The spokesperson said that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges, adding that the suspect, who could not provide a satisfactory account of the firearm, was immediately arrested.

He also said that on April 18, at about 8.13 a.m., a shooting incident had occurred at Sawmill area of Osiele under the Odeda Division, between a local vigilante member, who allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally while returning from the farm.

“The discharge resulted in injuries to three persons; The suspect has been apprehended, and the firearm used in the incident has been recovered through collaboration with the Amotekun Corps.

“The victims were promptly taken to medical facilities, where they received treatment and are currently in stable condition, responding well to treatment,” he said

According to him, the suspects in the above cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

He said that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bode Ojajuni,

commended the proactive efforts and professionalism of the officers involved.

He reiterated that the Command will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations against unlawful possession of firearms, cultism, and other violent crimes.

The CP also urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines: Gateway Shield on 0800 000 9111, 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
