The Police Command in Ondo State has arrested a 32 year-old man, Osita James, for alleged sexual abuse of a 13 year-old in Ile-Oluji, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of the state.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s Spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Monday in Akure, saying the arrest was made on Feb.5 after a report was made at the police station by one Uchenna.

Jimoh explained that the suspect was caught while sexually abusing the victim at about 1600hrs at Asio area in Ile-Oluji town.

“Upon receipt of the report, the victim was promptly rescued and taken for medical examination.

“The suspect was immediately apprehended and is currently in custody, where he reportedly made useful statements and confessed to the commission of the crime.

“During preliminary investigation, the victim disclosed that the suspect had allegedly committed similar acts against her on several occasions prior to the incident.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation,” he said.

The spokesperson said the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Adebowale Lawal, aligned the arrest with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

He said the IGP’s vision and reform-driven leadership continued to strengthen gender-sensitive policing, promote accountability, and enhance strategic responses to sexual and gender-based violence nationwide.

According to him, the Police Command in Ondo State remains resolute in translating this vision into visible actions that build public trust and enhance community safety.

Jimoh also appreciated members of the public for their timely and courageous reporting.

He, therefore, urged all residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and actionable information to the police for swift intervention.

“Together, we can build a safer society for our children and generations unborn,” he said.
