The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for submission of lists of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by political parties by three days.

The commission disclosed this in a statement issued by National Commissioner and Chair, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, on Sunday in Abuja.

Haruna said that the commission approved the extension of the deadline for submission in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Elections from July 11 to July 14.

He said that the decision was based on the appeal by Inter-Party Advisory Council on behalf of political parties which were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the scheduled timeline.

Haruna noted that the extension underscored the commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity in its practices, while acting within the ambit of the law.

He enjoined political parties to take advantage of the window of opportunity and ensure that all necessary details were uploaded before the expiration of the new deadline.
