Two women were on Thursday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a five-day-old baby.

The police charged Blessing Edet, 20 and Blessing Uchenna, 35, whose residential addresses were not provided with conspiracy and theft.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Lucky Ihieme, alleged that the defendants and some persons at large committed the offence on April 19, at the Maza Maza Motor Park, Lagos State.

Ihieme said that the defendants received the stolen baby from Ms. Anthonia Nkiru.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 411 and 277(1)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate O.A. Layinka admitted the defendants bail in the sum of N100 each with two sureties in like sum.

Layinka held that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until June 21, for mention. (NAN)
