Months after pleading not guilty, Justice Simon Aboki of the High Court of Lafia, Nasarawa State  has sentenced Timileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder of Salome Adaidu.

Ajayi had been standing trial at the High Court of Justice, Lafia.

He was charged with one count of culpable homicide punishable by death, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.

He was arraigned earlier in the year  before Justice Simon Aboki. Upon arraignment, the suspect pleaded not guilty to the allegation.

The case was then adjourned from 17 to 20th March for trial.

The prosecuting counsel Stanley Nwaforagwu, while speaking to journalists after the arraignment, said, “The defendant, Timileyin Ajayi was properly arraigned before the High Court of Justice, Lafia on a one-count charge of culpable homicide punishable with death. His plea was taken and he pleaded not guilty to the charge and a date was set for trial.

However, on Thursday June 26, the judge convicted Ajayi who is to die by hanging.
