CAN exposes APC fraud as hired ‘Bishops’ fight over money at Shettima public presentation

Admin July 20, 2022

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has exposed a spiritual fraud perpetrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) when it hired unknown ‘Bishops’ to give a Christian endorsement to it Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election.

CAN has openly disowned the hired ‘Bishops’ who attended the public presentation of the vice presidential candidate of the APC, Kashim Shettima.

The ‘Bishops’ were captured in viral videos struggling over money which was doled out to them by their hirers. One of the unknown ‘men of God’ said he was promised N100,000 as appearance fee but was paid only N40,000.

Reacting to the show of shame, CAN described rented ‘Bishops’ as desperados who attended the event for themselves.

Reverend Joseph John Hayab, the Vice President of CAN (19 Northern States and Abuja) and its chairman in Kaduna State, said this in Abuja.

CAN had kicked against the same faith ticket for the number one seat in Nigeria, describing it as injustice in a secular state like Nigeria.

CAN said Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the APC, has the liberty to “hire mechanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them,” but stressed that such would not obviate the need for fairness and justice.

“The people we saw at the unveiling of Shettima paraded as Bishops are people who did not have enough time to learn how to wear Bishop garments. Take a closer look at their photo and you will see another Nollywood movie.

“CAN wonders why the desperation. First, a story was out claiming to have come from the Chairman of CAN Borno state only to be refuted. Secondly, there was another lie that BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) and his running mate were on their way to meet CAN President one night. A meeting that was not true and was on a night that the CAN President was in Alabama USA attending Baptist World Alliance Conference of which he is the Vice President.

“Another desperation story was that they met Papa Adeboye which the RCCG later refuted. If Christians are not important why the desperation?” CAN wondered.

Meantime, President Muhammadu Buhari has predicted victory for the APC ticket in the 2023 presidential election.

Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s spokesman, said Buhari made the prediction when he received Sen. Kashim Shettima, the running mate and vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Shehu said the president struck a chord of humour while responding to a flowery speech by Shettima, saying, “I will respond to your speech when I am handing over to you and your boss. God willing, you are going to win.”

President Buhari, who received the VP Candidate shortly after he was unveiled by the leadership of the party and Bola Tinubu, expressed delight over the choice of the former Governor of Borno as running mate.

“I wish you the best. Your consistency in the party is very respectful.  You served your two terms as Governor and finished well.

“You have kept touch with your base. At every important occasion or event, you are maintaining support for the one who succeeded you.  This is commendable,“ he said.
