The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Tuesday said Debo Guntoye, a middle-aged man, who survived electric shock on Sunday in Badagry was not its staff member.

EKEDC’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr. Godwin Idemudia, disowned the man in a statement in Badagry.

According to the official, “it is true that someone on Sunday was shocked by electricity while working on a street light at Sowhe area of the town, but he is not our staff.

“Based on findings, we discovered that an electrician was working on a street light and got electrocuted due to the closeness to the high tension line on Badagry Isolation Centre 11kv feeder.

“I have gone to visit the spot of incidence this morning to ascertain by myself.

“Also, in-house staff audit was carried out both on technical and commercial staff, to know if any of them was involved in an accident during the weekend.

“Meanwhile, none of our staff is involved; we have no staff member by the name Debo Guntoye and no one seems to know anything about him,” he said.

Idemudia urged customers within the network to send messages through WhatsApp platform and SMS to report all faults to EKEDC any time they have issues of supply.

He urged them to desist from illegal connections and report any disconnection or electrical fault to the District Office or Zonal Office in their areas.

Guntoye, on Sunday, survived electrocution while connecting some houses to the pole in Sowhe quarters on General Hospital Road, Badagry.

Mr. Benjamin Akappo, a resident of the area, told NAN in Badagry that Guntoye arrived at the spot with a ladder around 8.00 a.m., to reconnect some houses in the area.

According to him, the man was on top of the pole when they restored electricity to the area. (NAN)
