The new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Nigeria, Amb. Robert Petri, on Wednesday said that the exposure of young Nigerians to international education would enhance Nigeria’s overall development.
Petri told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the Second Edition of ‘Study in Holland Education Fair’ in Lagos that young Nigerians should be attuned to studying abroad.
The ambassador enjoined more Nigerians to begin to avail themselves of the huge opportunities and affordable English language-taught courses in Dutch universities and colleges.
“Netherlands is a very outward-looking country. As a small country, we strongly believe that we have to have an outward orientation.
‘’We really want young Nigerians to know that there are currently huge opportunities for them to come and study in the Netherlands at affordable costs.
‘’We really want young Nigerians to have international orientation during and after their studies in different Dutch internationally-recognised universities and colleges,’’ he said.
Petri assured Nigerians that Dutch universities and colleges were among the most affordable and internationally-recognised institutions in the world.
He said that studying in the Netherlands would provide young Nigerians conducive learning environment, as well as expose them to other people from different parts of the world.
Petri said there were also employment opportunities for foreign students in the Netherlands immediately after their studies.
The ambassador said that the second education fair was organised to give young Nigerians opportunity to interact directly with representatives of the different Dutch institutions before making their choices.
He said that educational insitututions in Netherlands were willing to collaborate with their Nigerian counterparts in promoting more educational cooperation between both countries.
