US authorities probe firm over Nigeria dealings
The law firm of Kirby McInerney LLP is investigating potential claims against mining giant Glencore plc over possible under-hand dealings in its operations in Nigeria, Venezuela and Congo DR.
The investigation concerns whether Glencore plc (“Glencore” or the “Company”) has violated the federal securities laws and/or engaged in other unlawful business practices.
On July 3, 2018, Glencore disclosed that it received a subpoena from the U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) requesting production documents and other records related to the Company’s compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and United States money laundering statutes.
Glencore stated that the subpoena relates to its operations in Nigeria, Venezuela, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. On this news, Glencore shares fell sharply during intraday trading and closed down approximately 9% on July 3, 2018.
