Two judges quizzed for allegedly receiving bribe
Two Federal High Court judges, Mohammed Nasir Yunusa and Hyeladzira Ajiya Nganjiwa, were Monday at the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, interrogated for their alleged roles in a case of corrupt enrichment.
The arrived at the EFCC in the morning and were quizzed by two operatives of the agency. The EFCC in both it Lagos and Abuja head office had been busy in recent weeks with high profile cases of bribery and corrupt environment against some politicians and public office holders. The latest addition to the list were judges and justices of the Supreme whose cases have triggered nationwide debates.
The judges were alleged to have received huge sums of money in bribes from two senior lawyers to compromise them in the cases they were adjudication on. The two lawyers had already been arraigned.
Two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SAN, Rickey Tarfa and Joseph Nwobike, were on March 9, this year arraigned before a Lagos High Court on allegations of offering bribes to judges to compromise them. Their arraignment triggered a fresh security focus on the judiciary culminating in the recent raids of the homes of judges and Supreme Court justices by men of the Department of State Services (DSS).
