Twitter on fire as Peter Obi slams security vote, $43.45m kept in apartment, says culture of sharing is a culture of waste
Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has been the toast of Twitter, the second time in a space of seven months. He spoke on cost-effective governance at the Platform in Lagos. He drew applause from the audience as he did last year with practical ways of cutting cost in government.
Today, in video clips provided by Channels TV, Obi spoke on some of the topical issues in Nigeria: foreign borrowing, the opaque security vote by state governors and the $43.45 million found in an apartment in Lagos, where he incidentally, also lives.
It was at a policy and governance forum, The Platform, hosted by Covenant Christian Centre, Iganmu, Lagos. It was at the same forum last year October, where his profound thoughts on government waste got everyone talking.
Obi who governed Anambra State and left behind a healthy credit status for his successor while other governors left heavy debt overhang.
He urged leaders in authority to imbibe the culture of saving for the rainy day. He said the concept of security has been turned into a conduit for corrupt enrichment.
He said the culture of sharing monies by the government is promoting a culture of waste.
