American President Donald Trump may be having a telephone conversation with his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari, today, Monday, February 13, 2017, a Channels TV report said. Buhari is presently on a medical vacation in London.
“The telephone conversation billed for 3:45 p.m. has been confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Mr Femi Adesina,” the report said.
It added that this is the first time Mr Trump would be speaking to any African leader since assumption of office.
“It is not clear what the conversation will center on, but the two leaders may be taking a look at the travel ban contained in Trump’s executive order and how it may affect Nigeria and the United States who have enjoyed good relations over the years,” the report said, adding:
“The American President has since been putting calls to other world leaders to enunciate his action plans towards the eradication of terrorism in America”.
America has many business interests in Nigeria especially in the oil and gas sector and Nigeria is a major trading partner with the US out of Africa. The talks may centre at efforts to deepen bilateral ties between the two nations much more at these times when Nigeria is romancing with China.
