Trouble in Rivers: APC asks factional Assembly to impeach Fubara
The political war of attrition between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike has notched up a feverish pitch with the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) directing members of the factional State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule to commence impeachment process against Fubara.
The Amaewhule-led members are those loyal to Wike.
This is coming barely 24 hours after Fubara had pronounced the factional Assembly as non-existent, and dismissing all their actions so far as a nullity.
Fubara made the pronouncement when he hosted a delegation of traditional rulers from Bayelsa state led former governor, Seriake Dickson.
But in a reaction to Fubara dismissal of the factional Assembly, Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Mr Tony Okocha, Tuesday gave a directive during a media conference at his office, in Port Harcourt, urging the Assembly to begin impeachment process of Governor Fubara.
Okocha said no section of the constitution empowers the governor to declare the Assembly members non-existent.
