Telecom: Current pricing regime not sustainable – ALTON
August 23, 2023
Telecoms operators in Nigeria are again calling for a review pf the current pricing regime in the industry.
Speaking at the ongoing Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content Expo (NTICE 2023) organised by the Nigeria Office for Developing the indigenous Telecoms Sector, (NODIT) under the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Lagos, Engineer Gbenga Adebayo, the Chairman of ALTON, said that a more realistic price in this regime needs to be looked at.
According to him, regulatory interventions are also responsible for many challenges operators face in the industry.
“The current pricing regime in the industry is not sustainable. We are basically selling below cost. It is not easy but we must allow market forces to determine the prices”, he said.
He noted that the electricity is being subsidised by the government and by the time it is removed just as it has been removed from petrol, we will face the same hardship we are currently facing with the removal on petrol.
He added that today’s pricing is not sustainable in the current economic dispensation.
The expo is organised to celebrate indigenous content generators.
