Sowore meets bail conditions
Counsel to the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Femi Falana says Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, have met their bail conditions on charges of treasonable felony.
He made this know at the resume trial of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Upon commencement of trial on Wednesday, Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), told the Federal High Court in Abuja that the defendants would be freed later on Wednesday.
He said, “I have already explained to the learned prosecuting counsel that we are encumbered by the refusal of the State Security Service to allow us to prepare for the defence of the defendants”.
“I had already asked my learned counsel for the prosecution, that we are confident that the defendants will be freed today (Wednesday) from the custody of the SSS having met the bail conditions imposed on them by this honourable court.
“Once they are liberated from the custody of the SSS, we will be in a position to take full instruction from them.”
Mr Falana asked the court for an adjournment on the grounds that he has not been able to gain access to the defendant who has been in the custody of the State Security Services.
In his response the prosecuting counsel, Hassan Liman opposed the application for adjournment stating that the charges were filed and served on the defendants on 20th of September, which affords the defendant ample time and opportunity to prepare for their defence.
Justice Ojukwu however adjourned the trial to the 5th and 6th of December, 2019.
The adjournment is occasioned by the objections raised by Counsel to Sowore, Mr Femi Falana to the effect that the defense team was never served with the witness statement that the prosecution is relying on to proceed with the trial.
