May 9, 2023
South East Senators have advised the President-elect Bola Tinubu to be conscious of the grave implications of zoning and endorsing a candidate for the position of Senate President from the South-South.
According to the senators in a communique after a meeting in Abuja, this will mean disregarding the Southeast and such move will no doubt serve as a recipe for injustice which will culminate to restiveness.
Senator Ifeanyi Uba, while reading the communique to journalists after the meeting noted that the lawmakers are imploring the President-elect to be sensitive to the times in Nigeria and ensure the country continues to thrive on the part of equity, unity and fairness.
He noted that the country is already divided amongst ethnic and religious lines because of the exclusion of the Southeast region, adding that he wants the incoming administration of Mr. Tinubu to correct this anomaly by ensuring that the Southeast is given the opportunity to produce the next Senate President.
This is coming even as the National Working Committee of the Party has nominated Sen. Godswill Akpabio for Senate President.
Others are the Speaker of the House of Representatives (North-West) – Hon. Abass Tajudeen (Kaduna), Deputy Speaker South East-Hon. Ben Kalu (Abia).
