Seven years jail: Senator Nwaoboshi to seek final redress at Supreme Court
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the Senator representing Delta North at the Senate, is heading to the Supreme Court hoping to overturn the seven years jail term slammed on him by the Court of Appeal.
The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal had on Friday, July 1, 2022 convicted and sentenced Senator Nwaoboshi to 7 years imprisonment along with his two companies: Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd
In addition, the Court of Appeal ordered that the companies who were the 2nd and 3rd respondents in the appeal be wound up in line with Section 22 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and their properties forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria. A case of N322 million fraud was established against the senator and his companies by the EFCC at the Appeal Court, barely one year after a lower court in Lagos had discharged and acquitted him  and his companies of any misconduct.
A statement by the media office of the senator confirmed that he would heading to the Supreme Court to hunt for a nullification of the ruling of the Appeal Court. The statement reads:
The attention of SPON Media has been drawn to the news making rounds about the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Lagos over a matter which EFCC filed against Chief, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the Senator representing Delta North at the Senate.
It is not unusual to have judgements that astound the parties, depending on where the pendulum swings.
The judgement, the news of which is in the media arose from an appeal by EFCC against the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos, which discharged and acquitted Distinguished Senator & Co-Defendants at the trial level.
Steps are being taken to challenge the Court of Appeal judgment immediately and we are confident that the Supreme Court will subject the judgment to critical review accordingly.
