How Senator Melaye landed in hospital to beat detention
After the Senate mace drama, Abuja has offered yet another drama as the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, who was being taken to Lokoja in Kogi State by the police allegedly to be paraded alongside some suspects who implicated him in an ongoing investigation into criminal activities in the state has terminated his journey in an Abuja hospital.
Melaye was arrested yesterday at Abuja airport by men of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on his way to attend a programme in Morocco. He was later released same day. But the police which had laid siege to his house nabbed him Tuesday morning and was driving him to Lokoja when the senator allegedly jumped off the police moving vehicle and sustained injury.
The development quickly changed the course of events as he was rushed to Zanklin hospital, a private hospital in Mabushi area of Abuja.
Melaye was arrested Tuesday morning by operatives of the Nigeria Police drawn from its Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. He was first taken to SARS Abuja office for documentation and other formalities and was later being driven to Lokoja whereupon he jumped out of the moving vehicle.
He was said to have injured himself in the process and was taken to Zanklin Hospital in Abuja.
By the time of filing this reports, Senator Melaye was still in the hospital.
