Security alert as Nigerians await judgment; Ag IGP deploys 7 DIGs, 5 AIGs
Barely 24 hours to the pronouncement of judgment on the presidential election on Wednesday, there is already a tense security alert nationwide with security personnel deployed around strategic places in the city centres nationwide.
The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, is to deliver judgment on the February 25, 2023 presidential election on Wednesday.
Political Economist NG reports that operatives of the DSS, police, military personnel and agents of paramilitary security outfits have intensified their surveillance across the country.
‘We are not out to put fear in people but we are out to ensure that there is peace and that nobody takes the law into his hand for whatever reason.
“All law-abiding citizens should have no fear as we are out to protect them but any trouble maker where ever such a person is hiding has every reason to fear because the law will be enforced,” a top cop told our reporter in Lagos.
Meanwhile, the Acting Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced the deployment of seven Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) and five Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to departments, Commands and formations.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said the deployment followed the recent promotion of deserving officers to the rank of DIG by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Adejobi said the newly deployed DIGs are Bala Ciroma, Finance and Administration, Frank Mba, Training and Development, Habu Sani, Force Intelligence Bureau and Usman Nagogo Logistics and Supply.
He said others are Daniel Sokari-Pedro, Information and Communication Technology, Ibrahim Ka’oje, Research and Planning and Ede Ekpeji, Operations.
Adejobi said the AIGs are Oladimeji Olanrewaju, Force Secretary, Yekini Ayoku, Police Mobile Force, Idris Dauda, Zone 16 Yenagoa, Oyediran Oyeyemi, Police Cooperative and Benjamin Nebeolisa, ICT.
Adejobi said the I-G had urged the newly posted and redeployed senior officers to entrench professionalism in their areas of responsibility.
The I-G also urged them to prioritise people-centric policing and ensure the protection of lives and properties.
