The family of the spokesperson of the Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP), Comrade Ikenga Ugochinyere, has continued to count their losses with two persons reportedly killed by arsonists who attacked and burnt his home in Umukegwu Akokwa Area of Imo State.
This was the second attempt at his life in one month. One of those killed according to family sources is his uncle, identified as Dan. Three other persons were feared dead in the attack.
Ugochinyere is the House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State for the 2023 polls.
The attackers burnt all the vehicles within the compound.
On Saturday while the assailants were having a field day shooting and torching everything within sight, he sent a Save Our Soul message, titled: “EMERGENCY ALERT!,” which was backed with several videos and photographs of the scene of attack.
The SOS message read: “This is to notify the general public that this may be my last acts as a human as my house in Umukegwu Akokwa is under heavy attack currently.
“As I pen this, all the cars in my house have been set ablaze and there is heavy shooting for the past 25 mins.
“Painfully, as I speak to you, I saw them kill my father’s younger brother, Uncle Dan.
“I pray and call for urgent help from anybody who can help.
“The attackers are shooting at every one in the house and this is an urgent cry for help.”
Witnesses narrated how horrified they were and had to hide from the marauders.
“We were shocked that there was no counter force from the police or Army while the mayhem lasted,” a source told our reporter in shock.
