Saraki, Ekweremadu granted bail in forgery case
The drama has turned full circle as the trial of the Senate President Dr.Bukola Saraki, his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and two others commenced at a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Monday. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges of forgery of the Senate Rules.
They were however granted bail with two “reasonable” sureties who must provide evidence of properties in Asokoro, Maitama and Wuse Zone 2 areas of Abuja.
Others arraigned along with them are former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Ben Efeture.
Justice Yusuf said in the event that they were unable to meet the bail conditions, they should be remanded in Kuje Prisons.
The accused were said to have committed an offence punishable under Section 97 (1) and 364 of the Penal Code Act.
