Re-opening schools: Minister urges State govts, WAEC to reconsider decisions
The Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu has appealed to State governments, to reconsider decisions to re-open schools so as not to jeopardize the lives of the students.
Mr Adamu stated this after the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday.
The Minister who also appealed to West African Examination Council (WAEC) to reconsider the decision to open for exams, said that final year students preparing for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) will not be allowed to return to school contrary to what had earlier been believed because it was not yet safe.
He said that he would prefer that Nigerian students lose an academic year rather than to expose them to dangers.
He however noted that none of the schools under his ministry will resume until it is considered safe to do so.
