I was quizzed for 15 hours by DSS, police; Ajaero recounts ordeal
The Department of State Services (DSS) has released labour leader Joe Ajaero, but withheld his international passport.
Ajaero who was arrested Monday morning on his way to the United Kingdom to attend a Trade Union Congress (TUC) has been recounting how he was quizzed for 15 hours by different security personnel.
He was released by 11pm Monday just ahead of the midnight deadline given to DSS by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to release their president.
Ajaero said he was detained and quizzed by security operatives for about 15 hours since his arrest around 7 am at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The labour leader said though he was detained by the DSS, some police officers also came around to grill him at the DSS office in Abuja over the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests that took place in August.
He confirmed that he asked questions on alleged terrorism financing involving a British national, Andrew Wynne who is still in the United Kingdom.
Following his arrest, the NLC condemned Ajaero’s ordeal and gave the DSS up to midnight to release the labour leader after it had put all its affiliates, state councils, civil society allies and all patriotic Nigerians on alert for a possible showdown with the Federal Government.
