Qatar on Friday, pledged to support Nigeria in the nationwide campaign against drug abuse and security issues.

Amb. Ali Al-Hajri, Ambassador of Qatar to Nigeria, said this at a courtesy visit by Mr. Chuks Akamadu, President, Centre for Ethical Rebirth Among Nigerian Youths (CERANY) to Qatar Embassy in Abuja.

According to Al-Hajri, the support is against the backdrop of CERANY’s nationwide campaign to end drug abuse and the need to tackle insecurity.

Al-Hajri said: “I thank CERANY for deeming it necessary, as a voluntary and not-for-profit youth organisation on complementing efforts of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other state actors.

“Particularly, in the anti-drug abuse community, I therefore, urge CERANY not to relent in its humanitarian efforts.”

Earlier, Akamadu said the visit was borne out of Qatar’s support in the fights against drug abuse and other related crimes.

“The visit is in recognition of Qatar’s support for United Nations’ Office on Drug and Crimes (UNODC) anti-drug, anti-crime and anti-terrorism efforts in Nigeria, and to exchange ideas on how to win the battle against drug abuse.

“Especially, as it affects the youth; it was in view of this CERANY, in appreciation, decorated Al-Hajri with ‘Platinum Medal of Honour,” he said.

He further assured the ambassador that the country’s labour of love in Nigeria in fights against drug abuse would not be in vain, hence the campaign initiative.

He, however, recalled that the NDLEA and UNODC had as of Nov. 2, committed to providing technical support as partners to ensure the project implementation.

It would be recalled that the Campaign was inaugurated on Nov. 2, in Abuja, with the NDLEA as partner. (NAN)
