Police Intensify Clampdown on MASSOB, Arrest 22
The Inspector –General of Police, Solomon Arase, has ordered his men to clamp down on members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the State of Biafra(MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Already 22 arrests have been made with the police on red alert to arrest more.
MASSOB has of late intensified activities in some states in the South East and Delta State. Recently, it staged a peaceful march on the streets of Asaba, Delta State but their activities have remained largely peaceful.
In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Olabisi Kolawole said this directive becomes imperative owing to recent activities of members of MASSOB and IPOB in some parts of the country.
So far the following arrests have been made viz ; Anambra State – 4 ; Imo State – 6 ; Delta State – 11 and Abia State – 1.
According to the statement: The IGP further warns that all person so arrested for inciting violence, irrespective of their class or status in the society would be charged to court accordingly.
This operational order empowers the police to arrest anybody fomenting any act of violence or disorder, or any act inimical to the security of the nation.
