The Adamawa Police Command has rescued a 12-year-old girl, Mercy Kefas, who was reported missing in Guyuk Local Government Area of the state.

The Police also arrested a 20 year-old Lady suspected to be her abductor.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) , SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Yola.

Nguroje said the incident was reported on Sept. 18 at Guyuk Divisional Headquarters by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Mary Felix of Birsinsin village in Guyuk LGA when the child went missing.

“Upon receiving the report, the Police immediately commenced coordinated efforts to locate the whereabouts of the child.

“The proactive response led to the successful rescue of the child and the arrest of the suspect around the Talasse border area,” Nguroje said.

He identified the suspect as Jamila Yusuf, 20, of Lafiya Village in Balanga LGA of Gombe State who is currently in custody, while the rescued child has been reunited with her family.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.

“The CP assures members of the public that the Command will continue to work closely with communities to prevent child abduction and other crimes.

“The Command urges parents and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of missing children or suspicious movements to the nearest police formation,” he said.

The PPRO however, noted that the CP commended the officers involved for their prompt response and professionalism.
