PDP in high hopes after strategic meeting in Abuja, plots way forward
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a strategy meeting Saturday in Abuja to plot the way forward for the main opposition party.
Meeting insiders said issues discussed included the party’s case at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), unity of the party, financial status and how to reposition the party to avoid further cracks on its wall of unity.
A source at the meeting told Political Economist NG that the party chiefs expressed high optimism at the chances of the party in the ongoing case at the PEPC.
Presidential flagbearer of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, in a tweet, described the meeting as “ripe with productive discourse and collaborative energy.”
One of the PDP governors, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa described it as a “strategic planning meeting” where the party “resolved to work together, reposition the party, and keep the flame of hope burning. Encouraging meeting with @atiku and fellow Governors, discussing challenges, unity, and the way forward,” he said in a tweet.
Presidential running mate to Atiku and immediate past governor of Delta state, , Dr Ifeanyi Okowa tweeted: “This morning, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and I arrived in Abuja to join the Presidential Candidate of our party, His Excellency, Alhaji @Atiku Abubakar, and other party leaders for an important meeting which centered around ways to move the @OfficialPDPNig forward.”
Insiders said the meeting was prompted by the state of the nation, internal bickering in the party and the need to appraise progress being made by the party’s legal team at the PEPC.
