Benjamin Olowu, over all best graduating student of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, says consistency and determination helped him to maintain best results throughout his five years in the institution.
Olowu said this in an interview at the university’s 25th convocation held on Wednesday in Lagos.
Olowu of the Engineering department was announced the overall best graduating male student with a Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate (CGPA) of 4.97.
He said that determination made him to plan and attain the best result in every semester.
“Fortunately, I started with a perfect GPA of 5.0 and I was afraid because my name went viral across faculties.
“My sister who was in the School of Mass Communication at the time, confirmed that my result was sent to their class group.
“I said to myself, I have to be consistent with this.
“So, I held on to a quote by Dwayne Johnson that said: “success is not always about greatness”, It is about consistency which leads to success,” Olowu said.
He appreciated his father, a lecturer in LASU, who he said, challenged him every semester to have a 5.00 CGPA and also promised him gifts in return.
“This was a source of motivation for me and it always put me on my toes throughout my stay at the university because I know he will fulfill his promise.
“Moving forward, I stayed on the course, and here I am today. I will state here today that to be successful at anything is not an easy task.
“With discipline and most importantly perseverance, you can do things you will not have thought is possible,” Olowu said.
He added that aside academics, he had a deep passion for impacting the people around him positively and the society as a whole.
“One’s service to humanity is the true definition of all round success.
“I was an executive committee of the Wikipedia Fan Club, a platform that equip students with the knowledge to write, create and edit contents on the largest online encyclopedia,” Olowu said.(NAN)
