Why Okowa dissolved cabinet; 2023 politics heats up in Delta
MAY 18, 2021
A reliable insider said the dissolution would give the governor the opportunity to appoint only loyal persons not two-face appointees “who work for the governor at day but work for his political foes at night.”
The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday dissolved his cabinet barely 11 days to his sixth anniversary as governor. He has asked permanent secretaries to take charge of various ministries in the state in the interim.
Okowa is not known to change cabinet randomly as is common with some governors. No reasons were given for the sudden turn of event but politics may be the chief reason for the dissolution.
Days ago, the governor made allusion to persons who were already scheming for power in 2023, warning such politicians to desist from petty politics and face their duties which is the transformation of Delta for the good of all.
Okowa also gave hint of the kind of politician that would succeed him: One who would see Asaba is capital of Delta State and who is ready and willing to work for all Deltans.
