Again, Obaseki floors Ize-Iyamu as Appeal Court affirms APC candidate Governor of Edo State
A Court of Appeal, Benin division, has upheld the election of the incumbent Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki. By this ruling, Obaseki remains the Governor of the State. There had been jitters in his camp in the build up to the ruling.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the opposition PDP had approached the court, challenging the earlier ruling of the State’s Election Petition Tribunal which affirmed Obaseki winner of the September 2016 election.
Obaseki of the ruling APC won in 11 Local Council areas of the State, while Pastor Ize-Iyamu won in five Council areas in an election that turned out fractious with both parties trading allegations of rigging.
By the time of filing this report, it was not clear if the PDP candidate would approach the Supreme Court on the matter.
Meantime, the APC camp had been partying all day across Edo State.
