Obasanjo is not a true statesman – Fayose
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that former president Olusegun Obasanjo is not a portrait of a true statesman, urging him to emulate true statesmen like former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar (rtd). Fayose said Obasanjo does not see the good in other people.
According to Fayose the likes of Abubakar are working assiduously for the stability of the country and do not see themselves as saints.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors’ Forum, stated this while fielding questions from newsmen after a visit to Abubakar at his residence in Abuja.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, disclosed that Fayose was full of praises for the former head of state for his roles in ensuring stability in the country.
The Governor specifically commended Abubakar for the roles he played before and after the 2015 general elections in the country.
In his remarks, the retired general congratulated Fayose on his election as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, disclosing that he had been reading about Fayose’s activities as a leading opposition figure in Nigeria.
He added that democracy needed a virile opposition to thrive and make progress and commended Fayose for the various developmental projects being executed in Ekiti State.
When reporters asked Fayose if he could embark on such visit to Obasanjo, he said, “Former President Olusegun Obasanjo must take a cue from somebody like General Abdusalam Abubakar who is working for the unity and stability of the country.
“President Obasanjo must behave like a true statesman. His major weakness is that he does not see anything good in other people or what they do except what he does himself,” the opposition leader added.
