NPFL: Kano Pillars win at home as MFM lose to visiting Abia Warriors
Kano Pillars Football Club beat visiting Katsina United 3-1 on Sunday to earn the maximum points in a week 21 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The match which was played at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano was watched by large number spectators.
Kano Pillars’ striker Junior Lokosa opened scoring in the eighth minute, while Nwagua Nyima doubled the lead in the 37th minute of the entertaining encounter.
Lokosa scored the third goal of the match in the match 48th minute to increase his season’s tally to 18 goals from 20 games. Destiny Ashade scored a consolation goal in the 57th minute.
In another match, Lagos-based MFM Football Club tasted home defeat as a more resolute Abia Warriors beat them 1-0.
In the match played at the Agege Stadium in Lagos, Ndifereke Effiong scored in the 54th minute to hand the visiting Umuahia-based side their first away win of the season.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the visitors were the better team for most period of the match.
They absorbed all the pressure from the home team duo of Sikiru Olatunbosun and Akuneto Chijioke, just as Effiong was also a thorn in the flesh of MFM FC defenders.
Chisom Kizito was able to clear a goal-bound glancing header from Akuneto in the 38th minute, while MFM FC wasted an opportunity to level in the 76th minute through Olatunbosun.
Speaking after the match, Effiong said it was a sweet victory for the club, and it would spur them to other away victories.
“This win is unexpected, especially against a big team like MFM FC. I must say that it was a sweet victory for us and I hope we will have more away wins,” he said.
