Nigeria’s “Mbele App” developer for 2018 Mandela Washington Fellowship

Mr Peter Ayeni, a Nigerian, who developed an internet application tagged “Mbele”, has been selected to participate in the 2018 Mandela Washington Fellowship for young African leaders.
This selection was in recognition of his innovation using technology to enhance learning.
Mbele app is designed to help increase users’ access to quality education, using technology and creating a fun learning environment in Nigeria.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ayeni had on Dec. 16, 2017, developed the Mbele app, using technology through the creation of a fun learning environment.
Reacting to his selection, Ayeni expressed appreciation to the organisers of the fellowship for finding him worthy.
He said that the recognition would spur him to do more and embrace creativity in proffering solution to educational development.
Mbele app was test-run in a private secondary school in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in February.
Ayeni said that the aim of the project was to prepare adolescents and the youths with essential technological skills needed to increase learning for brighter future.
He said that the app would enlighten students and others on how they could overcome examination phobia and achieve the desired goal.
NAN reports that the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders started in 2014.
It is the flagship programme of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
In 2018, the Fellowship will provide 700 outstanding young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa with the opportunity to hone their skills at a U.S. college.
The Fellows, who are between the ages of 25 and 35, must have established records of accomplishment in promoting innovation and positive impact in their organisations, institutions, communities and countries.
