August 12, 2021
Nigerians of all tribes and tongues have continued to mourn the sudden death of Mr Mohammed Fawehinmi, the eldest son of late legal icon and rights campaigner, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), who died on Wednesday in Lagos at the age of 52.
Journalists, lawyers and sundry professionals and business people took to social media to mourn the death of a ‘real fighter’, ‘nationalist’, ‘true son of his father’ and a ‘man who refused to be cowed’.
Festus Keyamo, SAN, minister of state for Labour and Employment was among the early mourners, saying Mohammed will be sorely missed especially for his contributions to nation-building. Keyamo was among the legal ‘disciples’ of Mohammed’s father, the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi.
A lawyer and rights activist, Dr Kayode Ajulo, described him as a comrade and brother who would be missed. He said that Mohammed stayed on course until death.
Ajulo prayed God to give succour to Mohammed’s family.
Mohammed complained of breathing difficulty and was taken to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.
He had a law degree from the University of Buckingham, England, and was called to the Nigerian bar in 1998.
In 2003, he had an accident in Lagos which affected his spinal cord and confined him to wheelchair.
