More knocks for Tinubu’s ‘we don’t trust Igbo again’ rant
Several days after, more Nigerians have continued to condemn APC Senator and wife of a national leader of the ruling party, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who recently profiled the Igbo as a people that can no longer be trusted.
Mrs Tinubu, a third term senator was caught on video interrogating a man (an amputee in clutches) demanding to know if the man was Igbo and if the man voted for Buhari. The man’s answer, obviously in the positive, prompted the senator to say “Igbo, we no dey trust una again (Igbo, we no longer trust you people). She was captured accompanied by security personnel and shaking her head conceitedly as she belched out the hate words.
Former minister and PDP chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode was among those who condemned the statement, saying the senator whom he respects did not speak for the Yoruba but spoke for herself, her husband, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and her party, the APC.
Precious Eze wrote on her wall: “I sincerely would have lost my love and respect for Senator Oluremi Tinubu if not for the fact that I respect the female gender so much.
Why make such statement she made AGAINST IGBO PEOPLE before or during the casting of her vote?
The system is already heated up enough for such a statement to emanate from a woman of her caliber against igbos! How dare she?
At this point in time when a lot of nerves have been frayed, for an incoming THIRD TERM Senator to make such a derogatory and Insensitive comment against a particular tribe in Lagos?
Most uncharitable of the Senator to say the least and everyone who know me, know that I don’t support anything that brings tribe and religion in, infact, i am intolent of such things, and for Remi Tinubu to toe a tribal line in the Lagos Political scene, is a shame! I expected much more from her honestly.”
Barr Basil Udebuana wrote in his reaction: “We have thugs pretending to be civilised all over the place”.
For Jide Adeluyi, “this is an embarrassment especially when Mrs Tinubu is not just a senator but also a pastor. She should be seen to be building a united Nigeria rather than causing more divisions. She obviously did not speak for Yoruba nation. Count me out of such hate speech”.
However, while some commentators dismissed her as a tribal bigot, others came to her defence, insisting that she may have said it as a joke.
