Nigerian-British pastor upsets UK neighbours with wild expensive parties
A bling-loving pastor cousin of Star Wars actor John Boyega is in an intergalactic row with his well-heeled Surrey neighbours over late night parties at his £2.5m mansion. Pastor Adegboyega originally from Nigeria came to the UK 12 years ago and shared apartment with his actor brother before hitting it big.
Larger-than-life Tobi Adegboyega, who dresses head to toe in Gucci, has angered the wealthy residents of stockbroker belt Surrey Hills by allegedly ‘speeding’ around its quiet lanes in his fleet of luxury motors including a £150,000 Rolls Royce and at least two Range Rovers.
The 38-year-old pastor has lived in the luxury property – which has its own swimming pool and landscaped grounds – for two years but has upset neighbours by apparently blaring loud music late into the night.
But the churchman founder of SPAC Nation – a Christian organisation which helps youngsters out of a life of crime – laughed off the unholy row brewing in the well-to-do enclave near his leafy home and says his neighbours are ‘hateful’ and ‘racist’.
Members of the Resident Management Committee have confronted the pastor about his parties, the latest of which happened on Christmas Eve.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: ‘They set up speakers in the garden and the music continued well into the early hours of Christmas Day.
‘It was loud enough for people to hear down the street.
‘None of us know what goes on in there really, there’s always a lot of young men, aged in their 20s, turning up in cars worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.
‘The speed limit is only 15mph because it’s a very tight, quiet road but they sometimes drive around at 40mph.’
Another neighbour, who also wished to remain anonymous, added: ‘I don’t know where he gets his money from but he used to drive a 2018-plate Lamborghini with a personalised number plate ‘PA5TOR’, which is worth about £200,000 and now has a Roller.
‘A large number of expensive cars with blacked out windows drive up and down our estate to his home at all hours, making a lot of noise and driving at speed.
‘If I’d known that being a Pastor was so lucrative I’d have taken it up as an occupation too.
‘Then there are his parties which last all night with loud music and lots of people coming and going.
‘Neighbours who belong to the Residents Management Committee have been to see him about the noise and to be fair to him he and the lads he lives with are very civil and turn the music down if asked to.
‘I don’t think they do it maliciously, it’s just as though they live in their own little bubble with no awareness of how their way of life impacts on others around them.’
The pastor told MailOnline ‘I haven’t seen John for about five years now but he’s my uncle’s son and I stayed with him when I first came to London.
‘I owe them a great deal and I was hoping to maybe catch up with him over Christmas but it didn’t happen.
‘John isn’t a member of SPAC Nation and isn’t involved in funding the organisation – and I have to confess that I’ve not seen Star Wars yet!’
The pastor says he rents his Surrey mansion and seven similar sized properties across London to provide sanctuary for vulnerable youngsters.
When MailOnline visited his home on the Pine Coombe estate, his brand new Rolls Royce was parked on the drive along with two Range Rovers.
He agreed to meet us at a nearby hotel in Croydon where he turned up 20-minutes later dressed in designer clothes and wearing a gold watch.
Flanked by two men, members of SPAC Nation who stay with him in the suburban mansion, he said: ‘The problem is we live among hateful people.
‘Some of those residents are disgusted with the fact that young black people live on a luxury estate that is otherwise made up of white people aged in their 60s and above.
‘When I first moved in two years ago I tried to introduce myself to some of the neighbours but many of them were just not interested.
‘We did hold a party on Christmas Eve, as we do every year, but there was no loud music and to say so is nonsense.
‘Lots of other residents had parties over the festive season, so why should we be any different?
‘We’ve had altercations before where neighbours have sworn at us and one of our female members was called an ‘idiot backward person’. It’s racism plain and simple.’
Adegboyega is the lead Pastor at SPAC Nation which holds Christian services at hotels around mainly South and East London every Sunday.
His ministry has been described as a ‘young, dynamic church’ and most of the worshippers have previously been in jail for crimes like robberies and possessing a knife.
The services have won backing of the authorities but have been criticised by some as a ‘cult’ where members are encouraged to flaunt their wealth to make the church seem attractive to others.
The founder claims all of SPAC Nation’s money is self-generated.
There are an estimated 2,000 members, of which around 50 pool together money from their various business ventures.
He said: ‘One of our members runs a luxury car rental company, which is why I have nice cars. I don’t’ actually own them, they’re leased.
‘We also have African food outlets and over the last ten years or so, I’d say that the organisation has bought about 25-30 properties, mainly dilapidated ones, renovated them and sold them on for profit, pouring the cash back into the organisation.
‘I don’t get any grants from the Government or any help from charities.
‘We operate as a micro-economy to look after each other because as black men, we have to work three times as hard to succeed.’
