Nigeria, US cement bilateral ties as Buhari meets Biden in the White House
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met with the United States President Joe Biden in at the White House in Washington DC.
The President is the United States attending the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit which had other African leaders in attendance.
Pictures from the Presidency showed President Buhari in a meeting with Biden and the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken with other top government functionaries from both nations including Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama.
Buhari departed from Abuja on Sunday to join other African leaders for the summit in Washington DC.
The US-Africa summit, which began in 2014, is the biggest international gathering in Washington since the COVID-19 pandemic. It is aimed at renewing terms on US-Africa relations in various areas including trade, commerce and defence.
The summit, according to the US government, “will demonstrate the US enduring commitment to Africa and will underscore the importance of US-Africa relations and increased cooperation on shared priorities.”
Issues of climate change and attendant matters on the environment also formed part of the discourses.
