NDLEA nabs man with N9.8m fake currency
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara State Command Friday said it has arrested one Mohammed Adamu allegedly in possession of N9.8m fake currency.
NDLEA State Commander, Mr. Apeh Reuben who paraded the suspect in Ilorin said the fake currency, mainly N1, 000 notes were concealed in a carton of noodles wrapped with Sellotape.
He said the suspected fake currency trafficker was arrested by Jebba Command while on transit to Kano on August 9, 2016.
Reuben disclosed that Adamu connived with a yet-to-be-identified individual in Ilorin to carry out the criminal act.
“Investigation is in process aimed at arresting the accomplice,” the NDLEA Boss added.
He, however explained that the suspect was paraded in order to alert the public on the fake money in circulation.
“We just want to alert the public to be aware of such fake money because if this amount of money is allowed to be injected into the economy, it is very bad.
“A lay man can hardly identify that they are fake currency. These days we even have cases of people collecting money from ATM and still find fake currency in them,” he added.
In an interview with journalists, the suspect who spoke in Hausa language admitted that the fake currency was found on him.
