NDDC: Committee Chairman recuses self from public hearing
Chairman House Committee on Niger Delta, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has recused himself from the Nigeria Delta Development Commission (NDDC) public hearing after allegations of corruption were directed against him.
According to Tunji-Ojo, “I’m not here to hijack the hearing. What we’re doing here is for the good of the Nigerian people, especially those in the Niger Delta”.
The Committee began its fourth day of public hearing as it investigates alleged financial misappropriation at the agency on Monday.
It had on Friday summoned the minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio to appear before it today, Monday 20th July, 2020.
The acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Daniel Pondei had last week walked out on the legislators after accusing the Chairman of being interested party in the probe.
The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on the NDDC, Thomas Ereyi-Tobi now presides over the hearing following Tunji-Ojo’s decision to recuse himself from the hearing.
