The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Friday commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the “Not-Too-Young-To-Run’’ Bill into law.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Buhari, in company with some youths at the Aso Rock Villa’s Council Chambers, Abuja, on Thursday signed the “Not-Too-Young-To-Run’’ Bill into law.
The law is aimed at opening up the political space for the Nigerian youth to participate in decision-making processes.
Mr Bestman Okereafor, the NANS National Public Relations Officer (PRO), gave the commendation in a statement in Enugu.
Okereafor said that the association considered the signing of the bill into law by President Buhari as a move in the right direction.
He said that NANS, however, advised all political parties in the country to consider youths for elective positions in the 2019 general elections and beyond.
“NANS is imploring Nigerian youths to make judicious use of this law by introducing digital innovations into the nation’s polity to further develop the country,’’ Okereafor said.
He also urged youths aspiring for political offices to display maturity and sense of direction to earn respect of the older politicians and members of the public.
“NANS advises youths to shun violence and acts capable of halting our democratic process,’’ the NANS spokesman said.
