For N48,000 fraud, man gets N50,000 bail
A man, Agboola Aworeni, on Thursday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged N48, 000 fraud.
He was, however, released on bail in the sum of N50, 000.
Aworeni, 53, is standing trial over a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
ASP Matthew Numeproi, prosecuting, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in August 2018 at No. 3 Ifewara Road, Ile-Ife.
Numeproi alleged that the accused obtained the sum of N48,000 from the complainant, Mr Ani Jonas, under the pretext of allotting to him a 6ft piece of land for lease.
The offences contravened Sections 383, 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mr Bukoye Fayemi, applied for his bail, promising he will not jump bail.
In his ruling, Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
Ijiyode said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and also submit two recent passport-size photographs each.
He adjourned the case until Dec. 7 for mention.
