Mu’azu, Anenih Axed from PDP Chairs
The post-election trauma that has afflicted the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got even worse as the National Chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu, has been asked to resign. The fate of Mu’azu who has been in the thick of a theory within the party that he worked effectively for the failure of the party in the North follows that of previous chairmen of the party.
In recent years, Chief Audu Ogbeh and Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, both former chairs of the party were forced out of office unceremoniously. While Ogbeh was sacked by Obasanjo for trying to stand up to the Ota farmer whose Presidency at that time was assuming the hue of fascism, Tukur got the boot for allegedly double-dealing with governors and aspirants in the party.
Mu’azu is resigning after a late night meeting by the party top cats Tuesday pointed to a situation of no reprieve for the man who had remained beleaguered since the party lost the Presidential election in March.
The spokesperson of the party, Olisa Metuh, had told reporters at the party’s head office in Abuja to expect a “breaking news” from him later in the day. Unknown to Metuh, many of the reporters had snooped the information of Mu’azu’s resignation; his hint of breaking news was just what the journalists needed to confirm the resignation, which insiders said was at the behest of close associates of Mu’azu.
The NWC is currently holding a meeting at Wadata Plaza at the time of filing this report and Mr. Metuh is expected to address the press after the meeting.
The chairman of the party’s board of trustees, Tony Anenih, is also resigning today. Our source said President Jonathan was irked by the performance of Anenih whom he expected to help ‘fix’ the election.
Anenih, popularly called ‘Mr Fix It’ was said to have incurred the wrath of the President by feeding him with information that ended up at variance with reality as the party lost woefully to a better organised All Peoples Congress (APC).
