Minister to inaugurate Science Centre in Imo State

Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology, says government is prepared for the inauguration of Assumpta Science Centre in Ofekata in Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government area of Imo on April 3.
Onu said this during a visit to assess the level of readiness of the centre for the inauguration.
Onu expressed satisfaction with the level of readiness, saying that he was looking forward its official inauguration.
The minister, had on February, embarked on an inspection visit of the centre where he highlighted some of its gains.
He said the Assumpta Science Centre was a Federal Government project in partnership with the Vatican to serve as an informal training centre for young scientists across Africa.
He said the centre was also enshrine practical aspect of science study in Nigeria and other African countries as an area of specialisation.
According to Onu, the institution is expected to admit students from other parts of the world that will be taught Chemistry with complementary subjects such as Biology, Physics and Mathematics.
He said the centre would be replicated in the six geo-political zones of the country and would go a long way to aid national development through application of science and technology.
NAN reports that the minister, last year, visited the Vatican where he held discussions with His Holiness, Pope Francis and other Vatican authorities to accelerate the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the effective take off of the centre.
Eminent Nigerians from all walks of life are expected to witness the inauguration of the centre.
