Lufthansa to hire 8,000 new employees this year
Lufthansa plans to hire about 8,000 new employees in 2018, the German Airline said on Monday.
More than half the new jobs are for cabin crew along with about 900 pilots, the company said.
Lufthansa’s total workforce currently stands at about 130,000.
The airline said that about 2,700 of the new hires are planned for its fast-growing budget subsidiary Eurowings.
A part of Lufthansa’s new employees are expected to be drawn from former staff at its now defunct former rival Air Berlin.
The Cologne-based Lufthansa took over large sections of Air Berlin’s business after it announced August 2017 that it was insolvent.
Lufthansa chief Carsten Spohr has already indicated that the airline expects to have turned in a record year in 2017 both in terms of profit and passenger numbers.
